What type of Licensing does my Controller use?

Describes the two licensing models and which controllers use them

What type of Licensing does my Controller use?

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. To determine your controllers licensing type you must first find out what model of controller you have. If you are unsure of your controller model please note there are currently two controller families :
  • Zoneflex  : ZD - ZoneDirector (physical)
  • RuckOS   : SCG - Smart Cell Gateway (physical) / vSCG - Virtual Smart Cell Gateway (virtual) and SZ - Smart Zone (physical)
For physical controllers you can determine the model by either looking at its chassis or

For both physical and virtual controllers open the controllers administration UI in a web browser and look at the model listed on the Dashboard
  1. There are two types of Licensing available for Ruckus Controllers :
  • Traditional Licensing : device-based non-transferable licenses eg ZD and SCG controllers
  • Smart Licensing : Cloud-based transferable licenses eg currently SZ and vSCG managed via the LiMAN - Smart Licensing Manager (accessed through the Ruckus Support Website)
Use the supplied table to determine which type of licensing your device uses, its? AP granularity (ie what is the minimum number of AP licenses you can purchase) and if its license can be transferred to other controllers.
