Summary

Action to take in case of AP reboots due to kernel panic

Question

I am seeing events in the ZD indicating AP reboots due to kernel panic. What is my next step?

Customer Environment

ZD managed wireless network

Root Cause

Software, hardware, or environment related issues

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Users report disconnections
2. Looking at ZD events, AP in that particular area seems to have rebooted due to kernel panic
3. AP uptime is small enough to confirm the reboot

Please find out the following details after confirming the AP reboot as explained above:
1. Are there any changes being made?
2. How many users are connected?
3. What type of traffic is being transmitted?

Also collect the support info from the rebooted AP.

Workaround

1. Make sure the network is operating on the most recent maintenance release. For example, 9.6.0 and 9.7.0 are main releases. Whereas 9.6.1 is a maintenance release. Given these three options, go with 9.6.1.
2. If you are already running on the most recent maintenance release, contact Ruckus Technical Support have them investigate to provide a fix or a workaround.

Resolution

Use the latest firmware. If it doesn't resolve the issue contact Ruckus Technical Support to address the AP reboot issue.
